Historic Interest

In January 1982 it was going through a phase as the Duck and Firkin which was one of too many identikit pubs inflicted on the customers by the infamous 'House of Horrors' theme with Frogs vomiting bunches of grapes etc etc devised by J Thompson Design Co Ltd of Blackpool for Whitbread. Whilst Cask beer was usually available in the 'horrors' pubs, here it was Hartleys XB, Duttons Bitter and Castle Eden Ale (H), which typically of Whitbread pubs were priced at a premium but often of poor quality. A social was held here on January 28th 1982, so that the true horror could be appreciated. It was included in an article about Bolton town centre pubs in April 1982, and in May 1982 Marstons Pedigree had replaced the Duttons Bitter. In November 1982 it was included on the Bonfire Night Marathon pub crawl. By June 1983 the Pub had been converted to a sound and light experience pub for those wanting an epilectic fit. The pub was not listed in 1989 Beer in Bolton Guide so must have been keg beer only. In June 1989 the pub was being renamed back to the Trotters and around that time it lost its late night licence to 1am, but was expected to reapply. The pub was not included in the Great North Western Beer Festival Programme in 1992 so it must have been keg only. By May 1995 rumours of the Pub being demolished to make way for an extension to the car showroom were being denied. The pub had opened in 1966 and replaced the Brown Cow and Queens. However by September 1997 the pub had closed and was boarded up prior to being demolished.
