The 'Centre in Poynton' was built originally as a school for local miners' children and later converted to a social club and 'Folk Centre'. Today it is run by volunteers and is for hire and used by a variety of local community groups. Various rooms are available to hire for groups meetings or functions. Although the Centre has a bar it has no draught beer and is not open to the general public, but is only for use by groups hiring the premises.
