CAMRA award winning club over many years permanently closed in 2011 owing to J W Lees putting the building up for sale.

September 2020 - Approval of condition no 3 (Detailed Schedule of the Internal Features) of planning approval 0/43465 (Redevelopment of the upper floors to form 21 no. residential apartments, refurbishment associated ground floor residential communal areas, provision of ground floor residential management office, bin store and cycle storage at Imperial Buildings also known as Imperial Hotel, Station Road, Colwyn Bay, Conwy, LL29 8BP. Revised scheme to that previously granted under code ref 0/38846. Builders on site in January 2024.

Historic Interest

CADW Grade II listed since October 2012 for "its special architectural interest as a good example of a large late C19 combined commercial building, designed with a strong unifying appearance but with a subtle distinctive emphasis to individual parts of the building. It survives relatively unaltered and is also important for its historic interest as a good example of the first phase of development of Colwyn Bay as a resort. Group value with listed items nearby."
