Acorn was set up in 2003 with a 10-barrel plant, expanding to 25 barrels when the brewery moved to larger premises. It currently has a 160-barrel a week capacity. All beers are produced using the Barnsley Bitter yeast strain, dating back to the 1850s. The brewery has recently changed ownership and is now owned by Sonas Capital. The staff remain and former owner Dave Hughes remains in a consultancy role.
