Famous and prominently located medieval timber framed hotel (AA, RAC star rated) which has been extended to encompass several old cottages and the Wool Hall. Former USAF memorabilia from nearby WW2 airfields decorate the bar area. Separate restaurant. 49 rooms.

Historic Interest

Listed as a commercial & posting inn. A report in the Ipswich Journal*** on 01 Oct in 1823 states that : Swan Inn, Lavenham, to be let or sold. For particulars, contact Mr William WEBB, upon the premises. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 08 Oct in 1823 states that : Samuel SKEET, late of the Swan Inn Lavenham, returns thanks for his 16 years residence there & (announces) that he has now removed to The Greyhound Inn, Lavenham. A report in the Ipswich Journal*** on 12 May in 1863 states that : First Class Inn for sale, The Swan, Lavenham; with the very extensive stabling & premises, including a Butcher's Shop, occupied by the executors of Mr Wm STUTTER deceased, the late proprietor, who will give early possession. A report in the Ipswich Journal*** on 26 Oct in 1869 states that : The licensed Vctuallers Tea Association advertised the sale of tea via its Suffolk Agents. This was a response to the irregular sale of Wine by Grocers & included a reference to C. JACKSON of the Swan Inn, Lavenham. In June/July 1981 edition of Last Orders*** it was reported that Dave Waley was the new assistant manager & then offering Tolly, Adnams & Ridley beers on handpump.
