This Pub is Closed Long Term

Situated between two villages with panoramic views over the Suffolk countryside the Plough is a great venue for eating and drinking. Run by CAMRA members the varied beers are well kept and the food excellent. Two beer festivals are held at Easter and in the autumn along with regular quizzes, steak and fish nights and other special events. Quality accommodation is available in en-suite rooms.

Historic Interest

Current building is a former village school. They may have been an earlier pub building but we do not have any details of it as yet. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 27 Aug in 1851 states the Auction of the Plough, Hundon. "When my dad took on the Plough in 1958 it was owned by the Dunmow Brewery (this brewery was in North Street, Dunmow, Essex - opposite the duck pond). It was subsequently sold to Charringtons & we were a bit out of their range for delivery so we were encouraged to buy it." (information from Peter Rowlinson). In Dec 1982 edition of Last Orders*** it was reported that Zeb Banks (then the local CAMRA branch chairman) was landlord here where building work was just being completed.
