Clarence, West Kensington

Built in 1867, this is a comfortable locals' pub and a rare example of a pub that retains a two-room format. The doors to the room on the corner lead you into what was originally a snug, but which has now been incorporated into what used to be the Public Bar. This room is carpeted, contains a pool table, and has some interesting decor including stuffed fish in glass cases. The other room, which used to be the Saloon Bar, can only be reached via separate doors from the side street (or through the door leading to the gents!). This room is only used when the pub gets busy, and is bare-boarded.

Keg beers, no cask ale. This is a Chelsea-friendly pub and may open early on match days, check social media. The pub has been described as a "superb local's boozer in a proper old-school setting".

Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Planning Committee decided on 7 July 2026 to grant planning permission for a reconfiguration and retention of the pub at basement and ground-floor level, with conversion of the upper floors into eleven self-contained flats. App 2023/03336/FUL refers.
