The site was originally licensed in 1826 and rebuilt in 1862. It was opened out in 2014 to provide a light and airy interior with mixed seating and a raised bar area. Last refurbed in 2023. Modern prints, exposed brickwork, wooden floor. Wheelchair access and disabled toilet.

One or two cask ales and a good selection of craft beers; the food offering includes brunch, Porchester Pie and Sunday roasts.

Historic Interest

Whitbread acquired the Royal Oak in 1955; it was an early 'theme' pub as well as having an early espresso Venetian coffee bar; and the murals were painted by a leading trompe d'oelist named Peter Stebbing. Paddington was chosen as the location for this particular coffee-bar experiment because "In a neighbourhood where many Continentals live who enjoy a coffee and liqueur, and were born boulevardiers, The Venetian meets an evident need. It should have a particular appeal to the ‘under twenties’."
