This Pub is Permanently Closed

Believed to have been an ale house for 200 years, with the landlady bring her own ale. Said to be haunted, once a rough & ready place for colliers, who at one time accounted for 98% of the working male population, now a cosy nook in what is literally a backwater. It is said that tunnels once ran from the pub's cellars to the river and to Lake Lock Road, possibly used for the distribution of contraband goods. Hours shown are those permitted by the pub's licence. Many more buses pass along the top road. Bought by a Pontefract microbrewer [2013] and [by 2017] has undergone substantial remedial building work and the pub offers James & Kirkman and other regional beers.

Historic Interest

Believed to have been an ale house for 200 years and is the oldest pub that is still in use in the original building.
