The Red Lion's website includes a detailed history of the pub, which dates back to 1603, which won't be reproduced in full here. Many changes have taken place over the intervening centuries, but recent ones have managed to improve the customer space available, modernise the toilets, and add a small function room, all the while maintaining the quality of their ales, and a high level of service from the friendly staff. Larger events such as the pub's annual Oktoberfest and various live music events take place in the large function room upstairs. While the pub doesn't provide food beyond bar snacks such as crisps, nuts, and sweets-from-the-jar (plus the occasional scotch egg) it is takeaway friendly, providing plates and cutlery for food that has been bought from local takeaways (menus are available at the pub). As well as the range of ales, a range of wine, including prosecco, is available, and craft and/or real cider is regularly available.
