A friendly pub on one of the main routes into the town centre, the Runner has a large main room with a tradition pub layout at the front and more restaurant style at the back. There is a covered terrace along side the River Ray, that runs through the premises, and a pleasant beer garden with a large play area. The Swindon Duck Race, held on the Bank Holiday at the the end of May every 2 years, passes down the river.

The menu includes the tradition pub favourites and a specialist Himalayan menu.

Historic Interest

In 1825, a John Garlick built a pub here and called it The Royal Oak but the name was short lived and only a year later it was re-christened The Running Horse. Owned by Arkell's since 1883 and rebuilt it in 1891 with major alterations in 1964. It was leased to Beefeater Inns in 1985 to become one of their pub/restaurants. It opened again as an Arkell's house in December 2008 and was renamed the Runner as part of a major refurbishment in 2013.
