Officially the oldest pub in Wandsworth, built in 1738, this pub was renamed the Armoury for a few years but reverted to its original name when reopened with new tenants in September 2016 after a high quality refurbishment. Cask ales etc, gourmet burgers and classic pizzas with a strong emphasis on fresh produce. A big screen TV in the lounge area showed major sporting events on terrestrial TV.
Dog friendly, with a real fire, the Crane was said to be home to two ghosts. The pub’s bar is haunted by one - a pot boy wearing knickerbockers - and one of the attic rooms has a lady who seems to pass through a wall.
The pub had suffered total internal destruction by flooding on 20 July 2007 after which it was fully refitted with new floors, panelling, furniture and equipment. There was a heated covered area outside for smokers.
It was on the roof of this pub that John Hatch was presented with Greater London CAMRA's John Young Memorial Award for 2020.
Soon afterwards, Punch sold the freehold they'd acquired from Young's Ram Pub Company.
