Opened in 1894 as the Spout Lane Inn and renamed The Steps in 1976. The small, comfortable single room lounge bar is divided into two drinking areas; the walls are decorated with pictures of old Washington. Note the sign - "Nobody Gets Out Sober" Up to five changing cask ales are on offer some of which are often chosen by pub regulars. An unfined beer often features.

Tuesday is quiz night with free supper. There is a domino handicap every Sunday afternoon. Several TV screens adorning the walls ; there is a small stage along with a dart board. Note the trophy cabinet.

At the back of the pub is a small beer garden ; in the summer temporary pavement seating may be available.
