Popular, busy local situated just off the town centre. Smartly decorated wood panels complement the flagstones and open fire. The central bar serves one large divided room. Numerous TV screens show continual live sports. The award-winning, heated and covered garden at the rear (UK Pub Garden Awards) provides a haven for smokers. More outside seating installed at the front of the pub in 2021. Dogs are not allowed in the pub itself. The 'grill' menu is popular. Poker nights are well attended and there is live comedy on the first Sunday evening of the month (admission charge).

Historic Interest

According to the Royal Mail the address is "Royal Hotel, Oakworth Road, BD21 1QD", despite the pub clearly being on Damside. The current route of Oakworth Road from the top of High Street was an inter-war development. An Ordnance Survey of 1890 shows the Oakworth Road having replaced the names Dam Side, Seed Hill and Exley Head Road that were on an 1849 survey. The Royal Hotel (P.H.) is clear on the 1890 map. After Oakworth Road was moved to its current alignment the old name of Dam Side was reinstated (now written as Damside) but North Beck is now in an enclosed culvert with no evidence of the former old bridge, nor the corn mill, nor its dam.
