This Pub is Permanently Closed

According to the Secret Shropshire website, The Craven Arms Hotel was built in 1803 by the Earl of Craven as a coaching inn. The Hotel gave its name to the local Railway Station and eventually to the town of Craven Arms itself.

The Hotel has several bars, such as the Public Bar with darts & TV and also has pictures of Old Craven Arms on the walls. The ‘Ale Bar’ which hosts live music at times, has a wood burner, and the Lounge bar which has comfortable seating and open fires in winter. Pictures of monarchs adorn the walls, plus large mirrors from various breweries such as John Roberts Brewing Co & Salopian. A plaque also proclaims proudly that it is 71 miles to Aberystwyth (incorrectly spelt as Aberystwith).

Reopened after a short period of closure in July 2019, closed again March 2020.

Historic Interest

Before the inn was built by the Earls of Craven, there was just a hamlet nearby called Newton, hence most of the town only dates from the 1860s when the railway junction was established.
