This Pub is Permanently Closed
Traditional village inn, sadly closed in April 2016, following Greene King selling the pub to Hawthorn Leisure in May 2014. Planning permission allowing the pub to converted
into a private residence was obtained in January 2016 and the conversion completed in 2019. A planning application to build two more houses on the former pub car park was refused in April 2021.
The building was predominately mid 19th-century, but with parts dating back to the 17th. It had a wealth of character with original oak beams and cosy snugs as well as an open fire and exposed beams, exuding a lovely cosy ambience epitomising a typical English village inn. The name derived from it being built on the site of the Duke of Winchester's hunting lodge.
