This fine old pub is a Grade II listed building retaining some of the original 14th C features. It is situated on the eastern edge of Binfield at what is said to be the original centre of Windsor Forest. Formerly owned by Courage and then Eldridge Pope, Heineken have leased it to MLC Pubs. Beers will be from the Heineken range plus various guest beers.

Historic Interest

A Grade II listed building. The centre-point of the ancient windsor forest was an elm tree outside the pub. The tree died in 2004, blighted by dutch elm disease. Henry VIII and later Elizabeth I visited the pub frequently. Terrance Rattigan dedicated his play - The Deep Blue Sea - to "Mr and Mrs Newport, my Host and Hostess at the Stag and Hounds, Binfield with affection and gratitude." He stayed and wrote here in the early 1950's. The play has had many film and television versions over the years, starring the likes of Vivienne Leigh, Penelope Wilton, Colin Firth and more recently Rachael Weiesz.
