One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: Not listed

This 1960-vintage pub has an unaltered three-room layout. The lobby is outstanding with its original woodwork, doors and a screen which features mountaineering figures in frosted glass. The large main bar (formerly the concert room) retains its original curved bar counter and bar back. On the left, the smoke room also has relics from the 1960s - the small counter, mirrored bar back, fixed seating, curved bay window and wall-panelling. Also on this side is the lounge, now accessed via the smoke room, again with counter front, bar back and seating intact. The old off-sales can be seen opposite the disused door to the lounge.

General information about historic pub interiors

Built 1963 with an unaltered three-room layout. There a large lobby from the front door and between the lobby and the main bar is a screen which features mountaineering figures in frosted glass - three on the left of the door and two in the double doors and a larger panel on the right. Note the former telephone kiosk on the right of the lobby.

The present main bar was originally the concert room and retains its original curved bar counter, original bar back with just one fridge replacing some lower shelves. The full sized snooker table was added 20 years ago. When a concert room, the stage was situated in the rear right corner where the dartboard is now - the door in this area lead to a tiny changing room for artists.

On the left is a smoke room with a curved bay window, original fixed seating, a small counter with original front, mirrored bar back is original with brown Formica main shelf and just one fridge and some dado panelling and also floor to ceiling panelling just inside the door is of 1950s style but it has lost a fireplace.

There is a lounge on the left which is now accessed via the snug as the exterior door is not used. It has an original 1950s style bar counter front, a mirrored bar back, just one fridge, cream Formica main shelf, original fixed seating in the bay window but it has lost a fireplace.

Opposite the disused front door is a small counter, more like a hatch with 1950s style bar counter front - this was the original off sales. The gents' near the lobby look original.
