This Pub is Closed Long Term

The Chough was a former city centre pub popular with younger drinkers and possibly at one time an outlet for Hidden Brewery (in 2009). Closed in 2013 after a few years of uncertainty. Reopened later that year as a restaurant, Bill's, but this closed in May 2019 to be replaced by Dancing Moose offering 'offering music, cocktails and food' so just about running as a pub again. The Dancing Moose closed with the first Covid lockdown and never reopened. It was put on the market January 2022 and as of July 2025 was still up for sale or to let.

While the address is Blue Boar Row, the main bulk is further back and re-emerges on Castle Street where there is a much larger frontage. The whole premises is Grade II Listed as the Chough Hotel, and dates from the 16th Century with later additions and alterations. Historic England list entry 1277611.
