This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Old Cage is a grade II listed building, and dates from 1592. The building only became a pub in 1970 but had previously been a bakery, a shop, a restaurant, and a private residence. The one bar is stone flagged and has many little areas off it including one which has a real fire housed in a magnificent inglenook. Food is served every day from 12-9, with breakfast available from 7 in the morning (the pub is licensed from 9). There is a patio with a covered smokers' area for outside drinking. The beers are sold direct from the cask. One of the guests will be a lower gravity bitter (less than 4%) - this is often Gales Seafarer. The other will be higher (around 5%) from an independent brewery. The three bedrooms are all en-suite. The pub closed in May 2017 and after much uncertainty, permission has been granted for it to open as a Tesco Express in April 2018.
