This Pub is Permanently Closed

24/10/23 - demolition work started.

06/04/23 - now permanently closed. "The Queensbury is now permanently closed. Thank you to all our customers over the years."

8/01/22 Has been open but intermittently - check website/social media for updates.

18/11/22 - "The lights were out at The Queensbury tonight. I think it may have closed. Sad times. "

02/11/2022 - no cask beers on pump, instead a small blackboard in front saying Sharp's Atlantic & Doom Bar available by the bottle. These had previously been the 2 cask beers. In addition the beers from Signature (keg) seem to have been dropped.

Currently the food serving hours are said to be "until close". We have interpreted it as possibly until one hour before closing. The opening hours have been taken from a notice on the front entrance as at 17/12/21. We guess it may close earlier if not busy.

The front terrace (now covered and with gas heaters) proves to be a busy spot, especially in the summer and there's a restaurant at the back leading to a rear garden. In between is one large room containing a mixture of large sofas and armchairs and a coal-effect gas fire providing comforting warmth in winter. They also have excellent cocktails and a good selection of wine available and a kid's menu. Two regular keg beers from Signature. Two TV screens but on silent in Dec 2021.

The operators also run The Royal Oak in Bushey. The Queensbury pub is a landmark building in the Mapesbury Conservation Area. There is a 15% discount for NHS personnel. With trade still recovering it is possible only one cask beer may be on at a time.

Fairview New Homes (North London) Ltd bought the Freehold from the Conservative Association in 2012 and lodged a planning application to demolish the pub and replace with a 10 storey block of flats, with no pub. In November 2013 new plans, for a 10 storey block with a pub, were submitted. Brent refused permission in March 2014 and Fairview appealed. February 2015 - appeal was refused. The Queensbury pub leases part of the building from the freeholder.

Fairview New Homes (North London) Ltd changed its name to Redbourne (Queensbury) Ltd in September 2016. In 2018 Redbourne submitted three new plans – one in January which was refused by Brent Council in May and two in December. Both new plans – referred to as Scheme A and Scheme B were both refused in June 2019. Redbourne have appealed all three. The first of the three schemes mentioned above was subject to a Public Inquiry in August 2019 and the outcome is expected in November 2019.

Sadly the fight to save the pub was lost and planning permission was granted. Supposedly this should incoude a public space.
