17/01/25 - A Surveyor passed this night: all windows boarded up from within with chipboard. At the moment we are hoping it will reopen but we cann't find any information eithet way. Their F/book a/c has not been used for a long while.
Open in 1866. Despite the name, real ale ceased being served several years ago. Multiple keg beers available, including 3 from Brewdog. Accommodation available. This pub was originally called the New Market Inn, probably because it was the newest pub built to serve the former Metropolitan Cattle Market. It also dates from at least 1864.
Planning application - 2023/3891/P. Ground floor alterations, demolition and re-build of 1st and 2nd floors, erection of a mansard roof and three storey side 'infill' extension, retention of public house on ground floor (and basement) and provision of 7 self-contained flats on 1st, 2nd floor and mansard roof levels.
