This Pub is Permanently Closed

Planning application for conversion to a children's nursery was granted in August 2019, with other community uses to be considered in the evenings. The Officer's report points out that the established use of the building is not that of a public house, as the use has not operated for more than 10 years, meaning that it considered a temporary use of the building. It was also pointed out that a permanent change of use to A4 public house use would require planning permission and planning policy typically favours such uses being located in town centres. So, there is no technical loss of a public house use.

Operating company Antic put a large number of their leases on the market in 2018 and this venue closed on 06/01/19. Sad. Local paper The Ham & High has speculated that, "Crouch End’s Earl Haig Hall “could be a gym or restaurant” according to the agent touting the old British Legion hall to potential tenants. Nick Furlong, an agent at BC Retail who were marketing the property for new owners the Max Barney Company told the Ham&High: “What’s clear to me is that it didn’t work in its current guise. A problem will be getting planning permission, but that’ll be a problem for most prospective tenants." .

It was a former British Legion Hall converted by pub company Antic into a new pub which opened in November 2013, retaining the previous name, after the Legion's founder and first President. It had been popular all through the day, including with the parents of young children during the day.
