Lacey's Ale & Cider House was one part of the Tavern in the Port, with Chandlers (also part of Tavern in the Port) next down and Tavern in the Port down from that. Our location pin is on Lacey's, with the other parts downhill from it. The whole substantial site is Grade II listed and was listed as 'Royal Mail Public House' in 1973 and was still called that in 1983 planning. The section that was to become Lacey's was incorporated into the pub, by then known as Tavern in the Port, in 1996. This section, 4 Bridge Street, was previously electrical retail/storage.

Lacey's closed around November 2011 and the next few years permission was granted to split 1 to 5 back into its constituent parts and convert to flats, the last application being in regard to 1 Bridge Street in 2016.

Historic Interest

This block is Grade II listed, mostly under the name Royal Mail Public House. Historic England list UIDs: 1280117, 1200871, 1280118.
