This Pub is Closed Long Term
Closed October 2024: "Heineken Pubs and Bars are now actively looking to recruit a new tenant."
Traditional village pub, a former coaching inn. It has a fine old pub sign in relief across the frontage. Very old, low and beamed. Partially-modernised and knocked-through, olde worlde style with old beams. Two front bars, the left-hand one with a narrow iron column supporting an ancient beam; through a brick-headed arch to a small rear room. Two fireplaces in the front rooms, one with an impressive copper cowl. Separate dining room to the right of the entrance lobby.
An information board next to the side entrance relates the history of the village, including the story of Michael Wood's BBC series 'The Story of England'. The pub was used for sorting and analysis of archaeological finds discovered by villagers during that series in 2010.
