This Pub is Closed Long Term

The pub is under threat of redevelopment in 2018. Reported closed March 2019. Still closed Jan 2020. Please check whether open before visiting.

The Reservoir Inn opened its doors after a full refurbishment in December 2013 and was evidently so named because of its proximity to Thornton Reservoir. The pub consists of a front of house public bar with many original features including an old-fashioned kitchen range fuelled by a central open fire between two ovens; a lounge bar to the rear and a restaurant area in-b/etween. Out the back, adjacent to the car park, is a partially covered patio with picnic tables.

Historic Interest

Originally the Old Bulls Head. Before its current name, the pub was called The Steam Trumpet commemorating an accident that occurred in 1833 when a steam locomotive collided with a cart on a level crossing outside the Stag & Castle Inn in Thornton. The engine driver said the accident might have been avoided if he had been able to attract the attention of the cart driver sooner, a remark which directly led to the invention of the steam engine whistle, or so-called steam trumpet.
