This Pub is Closed Long Term
Built in 1873, the Bowling Green pub is steeped in history. Rumour has it that the licence application was originally declined as it was thought that such a venue would attract the 'rowdy element' and that it would be off putting for the ladies walking up and down Derby Road. Well, the licence was eventually approved and over the years this pub has boasted a bowling green. Whilst not quite matching up to its 'glory days', there is no denying that this is still an amazing building with an inviting atmosphere. Very popular with tradesmen enjoying a teatime drink, inside there is an abundance of space and period features as well as the usual pub games and outside there is a very comfortable covered smoking area. After many years now serves real ale.
