Altnacealgach Inn, Ledmore Junction (Alt)

You want to visit - You have this in

Food and adjacent Motel.

The charm of The Altnacealgach Inn, or "The Alt" as is called by the locals is its remoteness!

The journey there, surrounding scenery and the welcome will be well worth the visit.

Previously an old coaching Inn and famous fishing lodge, the Alt has been catering for outdoor sportsmen & fisherman since Victorian times.

Following a catastrophic fire in 1986 the Inn was rebuilt as a pub & motel; the pub & restaurant are in the old converted barn.

Tradewinds is normally avalable, with the second handpump alternating between Wildcat and Stag during high season, with a selection of Cairngorm bottled beer all year round.

There is talk of a third handpump in 2021!

The menu changes daily and the evening meals cater for all tastes and diatary requirements, with breakfasts available for those staying in the motel.

Located on the A837 Lairg - Lochinver road, a stunning drive in its own right, just over a mile East from Leadmore Junction, and just over the (quiet, single track) road from tranquil Loch Borralan, makes it an ideal place to stay as a base for all things for which the area is famous for:- walking, climbing, caving and fishing, or touring the glorious West coast of Scotland by cycle, motorcycle or car.

With the route of the North Coast 500 passing so close at Leadmore Junction, it makes an ideal location either to stop for lunch, or stay the night - or two!

Those with a geological interest will enjoy exploring some of the rocks sassociated with the Moine Thrust which are more than 1,000 million years old, some of the oldest on the surface of the Earth, the evidence of which gave rise to plate tectonic theory.

The motel has six letting rooms, each with a kitchenette, TV and en suite shower. There are also on site laundry facilities.

Craig & Sue Maycock took over "The Alt" in July 2019.

Opening times and food are based on high (April - Oct) and low (Nov - March) season,

Although the writer has visited The Alt many times, the updated description and details represent an email and telephome conversation with Sue just after Xmas 2020.
