This Pub is Permanently Closed
[2018 description] Medium sized open plan pub on the corner of Bevois Valley Road & Blackberry Terrace. In its latest guise it has mostly bare-board floors and the other woodwork is in various shades of green. As the name suggests the pub is aiming for the younger demographic on a night out. Sometimes the bar has tables and chairs but usually has evenings revolving around music with events such as Rock Tuesdays, Karaoke Fridays and live music nights. Their facebook entry lists upcoming events.
Historic Interest
Built late 18th century and traded as the New Inn. Originally a Strong's house it was taken over by Gales in 1978. A regular Good Beer Guide pub from 1979 to 2005 - 'A gem in the Valley' said one (not in 1980, 1998, 2002, 2002 or 2004 editions). After that it went into a decline with food service withdrawn for a while, then Fuller's, who had taken over Gales, sold it with subsequent name changes to Usual Suspects, Inferno and lastly Pre-Bar October/November 2015 and serving the student market, i.e. vertical drinking, not much furniture. Covid lock-downs precipitated loss of trade.
