Please note this Pub is closed 01/01/2012 and became Permanently Closed 01/01/2012 (Learning or non-residential institution). Closed sometime in the 18 months prior to May 2012. Future uncertain as whole block could be redeveloped and many neighbouring properties including the East Street Centre have already gone. The East Street Centre site was going to be a Morrisons supermarket, then an Aldi, but those plans are still in flux. One hopes that in the end something will be built that will provide sufficient footfall for the pub to reopen. (Updated July 2021). February 2024: Planning application 24/00163/FUL submitted for 'Change of use from public house (Sui Generis), to education (Class F1) with associated external works'. Planning approved 01/05/2024

This Pub is Permanently Closed

From memory, this was a classic town pub. We don't recall the front part being used but a corridor to the left led to the main room which had the bar on the immediate right and then seating and tables on the left making this section fairly narrow, however the pub went back a long way and opened out to the right and there was possibly access to/from Lime Street.

In its day it served respectable real ales and good pub food. The local CAMRA branch held its annual 'Mike King Darts' competition here at least once, and with so many participants that the finals had to be held over to the next night.
