It was opened in 1970 as a Tetley's Brewery pub - reportedly by footballer George Best - and is one of a declining number of 'estate pubs' in Yorkshire, many of them built from bricks, timber and concrete and sporting flat roofs. Completely refurbished in 2021 this is a friendly locals pub.

Historic Interest

Built on the site of the Dusty Miller Inn - and was named in honour of John Lacey who in 1617 famously escaped execution in Halifax where he was due to be beheaded by the gibbet, forerunner of the guillotine. He ran off before the blade could fall but foolishly returned to the town seven years later and was captured and beheaded.
