This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Rising Sun began life in 1854. The older image dates from 1904 and shows that at the time it was part of the tied estate of local brewers Walker & Co. That year the brewery was acquired by Charrington's and the pub continued as a Charrington's house for most of the 20th century, having been rebuilt in 1939. It was closed and sold off in 2012 and is now Mary Ann Doyle House, providing accommodation for homeless single people.
