This Pub is Closed Long Term
The Two Brewers is first recorded as trading in 1764, although the building dates from the previous century. The name derived from two brewers active at the time (Messrs Woodin and Tasker), whose premises were located on the opposite side of Lowfield Street. Presumably their beers were on offer at the pub in its early days. By the mid-20th century, after a succession of takeovers, the pub had become part of the Courage tied estate, and by the 1980s it had become an Ind Coope house under a pub swap deal. At that time The Two Brewers was a thriving concern under the stewardship of Bert and Jean Harrington, and their darts team was renowned as being one of the best in the area.
The timber-framed building is Grade II listed and features an attractive tiled frontage. Sadly the pub ceased trading in 2015 and looks unlikely to reopen. A planning application for at least part of the building to be converted into residential accommodation has been approved by Dartford Borough Council, so sadly yet another significant part of the town’s history seems set to disappear.
