Opposite the port that was once bustling with ship building, fishing boats, coal staithes and pit props, this unchanged typical two-roomed community local serves ruby red Strongarm on handpull, with the biggest head in town and most probably within the whole of Cleveland. Situated in close proximity to the scenic coastline. This free house has both public bar and smaller lounge with coal fires, and reputably a ladies loo which could well win prizes. Its latest claim to fame, besides the ladies's loos being refurbished, was featuring in the local press on 15th February 1971, showing customers coping with decimalisation, or not, as the case may be. The Strongarm still remains extremely good value. CAMRA's 2016 Community Pub of the Year. Served by the number 7 bus from the town.
