This is a restaurant, where drinking alcohol, including draught and bottled beer, is only allowed when food is being consumed.
Poppy's Cafe has by far the best selection of ciders and perries in the area, following their recent summer cider festival. All drinks are served from polypins and, on a recent visit, there were 9 real ciders and 2 real perries. Poppy's Cafe is situated within the Heugh Gun Battery Museum, the only museum in the country dedicated to World War 1 memorabilia. This area was the first area in the UK to be bombed during the 1st World War, at 8.10 on the 16th December 1914, during a 50 minute reign of terror, during which over 100 souls lost their lives, following bombardment from three of the Kaiser's battleships. Reasonably priced home cooked food is cooked to order. Poppy's Cafe is open from 11 - 3 on Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun. It also opens on Mon, Tues & Weds during school holidays. For those wishing to just visit Poppy`s Cafe, then there is not an entrance fee. Otherwise entrance to the Museum costs five pounds.
