On 1840 Tithe map, the site is listed as a meadow. Listed as Alsager Arms on 1875 OS Map. Large pub situated next to Alsager railway station. One of the oldest pubs in Alsager, with a chequered past. Used to have a reputation for being a rough pub in the 80s/early 90s, but the late 90s/2000s saw it undergo a major revamp and transformed into a more studenty venue as a Punch taverns outlet. However, the last couple of years has seen the venue go downhill and change licensees several times. On March 23rd 2011, the pub was shut and up for sale. Reopened after a £370,000 refurbishment late that year. Now part of Spirit Group [Punch Retail]-a John Barras outlet. 1st October 24th 2014 advertised in PMA and Spirit website as a 5 year tenancy.

Bought by Billingdale Ltd in 2016, a company not kown for running pubs!
