Spacious World-style bar/cafe/restaurant in a modern building close to the cathedral. Old floorboards and reclaimed wood predominate with a mixture of wooden and soft seating. The overall atmosphere is of relaxed and retro yet modern, including a quirky wall of suitcases. It attracts a widely mixed clientele including families during the day, office workers and students mid week and a lively crowd on weekend evenings. Food is served all day from the bar and includes nachos, burritos, paella and jerk chicken curry with a specials blackboard offering a "catch of the day". There is also a table-service area at the rear open for busier weekday lunches and dinners, plus all day Sat and lunchtime Sun. The permanent beer is Franklin's North Shore IPA (badged as Belle Isle); changing beers are one Sussex, Kent or Hants brewery while the others are usually from further afield micros such as First Chop, Magic Rock or Tiny Rebel.. There is a large range of bottled beers available, featuring US craft breweries alongside Tiny Rebel and often Staggeringly Good, plus craft cans from Beavertown, Brewdog and others. A loyalty system is available with a key fob offering tea ad coffee for £1.
