This Pub is Closed Long Term

Free house with two bars:a flat-screen TV in the main bar; darts and pool in the games bar. A busy local pub, run by the same publican for over 40 years, taking over from his father who enjoyed a similar tenure, it gives active support to charities and the local community. There is car parking at the front with a garden and covered smoking area to the side. Although no food is sold, Saturday night sees the popular fish and chips van visiting. Winner of local CAMRA award in 2019.

Historic Interest

It was established in 1830 by James Beckett but owned by the Duke of Buckingham and leased to John Terry (not the footballer!). At the beginning of the 20th Century it was burned down together with the Blacksmith’s Forge behind. Rebuilt in the style of the times and iwa one of the two remaining public houses in use (out of 6 in Steeple Claydon).
