Previously re-opened on 17th August 2023 as a "Breakfast & Brunch" bar with a rebranded image and new name of the Propeller Bar & Kitchen.
In May 2021 the old Kings Arms pub closed, only to reopen in 2022 as a "Bar & Turkish restaurant" under the name of the Uskudar Kings Arms.
It is a Grade II listed weatherboarded country building with a low beamed ceiling. It has a cosy atmosphere and a large dining area. The pub was very popular with pilots at nearby Biggin Hill in the second world war, and the building itself has a long history dating back to 1585.
Historic Interest
The current weatherboarded building dates from around 1700, but records date back to 1585. Located at the southern edge of the common, this former inn served the hamlet of Leaves Green, which still retains several cottages dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as being on the junction of the main Bromley to Westerham coach road with the former road to Downe (Milking Lane). The latter was severed in 1917 with the establishing of the airfield for the Royal Flying Corps, but was previously used by Charles Darwin, who lived across the valley to the east at Down House. The ground floor has extensions and a porch that were added in the 19th century. This later became a hotel and was owned by Nalder and Collyer, serving their range of ales. During the Battle of Britain, this suffered from bomb damage due to its location adjacent to RAF Biggin Hill. In 1949, a Spitfire crash-landed here and demolished part of the pub. Grade II listed in 1973 by Historic England (entry 1064393), which states: "C18 or older weatherboarded, structure. 3 windows. Ground floor has C19 extensions. Sliding casements and a C19 porch. Modern chimney stack."
