Commonside, Keston, BR2 6BP (View on Google Map)

Located on the edge of Keston Common, this large pub is popular with locals and visitors alike. Under new management since June 2025, this venue is strongly engaged with the local community.

Inside, there is a sizeable bar area with a long L-shaped wooden bar counter plus a fireplace and TV screen at one end. The decor is modern yet traditional with white ceiling, tiled flooring and patterned carpet. Various seating is present with additional tables on a mezzanine, which are given over to dining. Further seating is available at the rear, which leads onto the veranda.

There is a large area out front with plenty of table sets, which is popular in warmer weather. In addition, there is a back garden with patio and children's play area and which also contains a tea room which is available for meetings and other functions.

The pub was acquired by Shepherd Neame from Enterprise in 2016.

Dogs are welcome, as are cyclists and walkers (the London LOOP trail is close by).

A time-honoured tradition (for over 60 years) is for the local Ravensbourne Morris Men to perform outside on Boxing Day.

Note that opening times vary according to the time of year: Hours displayed are for March to October (as are food service times) but may be subject to change and could close early if quiet.

Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year for 2017 and runner-up in 2016.

Historic Interest

The original beer-house was built in the late 1840s as a Kentish weatherboarded building. Later owned by the Dartford Brewery and then Style & Winch, this was taken over by Barclay, Perkins & Co in 1929 and received its full licence in the 1930s. This building was then demolished in 1938 to make way for the car park and replaced by a new building situated behind. This was then almost completely destroyed following a direct hit during the Blitz in 1940 and subsequently rebuilt as the current building. The pub was later owned by Courage in 1955. The tea rooms remain in the garden as the Tea House from the interwar period, one of several that surrounded Hayes Common at that time to cater for the growing popularity of walking and cycling.
