Situated in a double-fronted shop unit close to the town centre, this micropub opened in November 2017 as an off-licence named Brews of the World, offering beers and other drinks from around the world. An on-licence was obtained in May 2019, but the pub was obliged to close in May 2025 due to a 'historic planning issue'. The premises lease was subsequently sold and it re-opened as Bernie's in May 2026, named after the landlady's dog.

FOLLOWING DESCRIPTIONS NEED UPDATING

The main room at the front features Burton brewery memorabilia, with the bar counter on the right hand side, adjacent to two glass-fronted refrigerators housing bag-in-a-box ciders, plus assorted bottled and canned drinks. Behind the bar is a wall-mounted array of 20 keg fonts; a list of the beers available can be seen above the bar.

A second room to the rear also has brewery memorabilia on the walls, including what is allegedly the world's largest Double Diamond flag, and offers additional seating. It also provides access to the toilets in a corridor beyond.

Quiz night first Wednesday of month.

No car park, but public car parks and limited street parking nearby.

Historic Interest

The building, built on the site of a former police station, was originally the Burton Museum & Art Gallery which opened in 1915 and closed in the late 1970s. The ground floor premises now occupied by the pub were previously occupied by a bookshop (Byrkley Books) and a hairdressers.
