This Pub is Permanently Closed

Busy, two-roomed locals pub, dating back to the early 19th-century, re-opened in 2015 as a privately-owned free-house after a lengthy period of closure. Both the two-level public bar (on right) and reverse J-shaped lounge (on left) have been recently refurbished, as has the function/meeting room upstairs.

The enclosed garden (patio and field), with picnic tables and smoking shelter, is accessed by a side door off the lounge.

Live music or karaoke Friday evenings; poker league Sundays (from 4pm) and Tuesday evenings.

Historic Interest

The pub existed in 1834 and probably as early as 1818; recorded as incorporating a post office in 1851. Early ownership not known, but it was certainly a Bass pub for many years up to 1978 when it was transferred to Ind Coope (Allied Breweries) in an inter-brewery pub exchange. It was later sold to Marston’s circa 1991 (precise date not known). After a period of closure, the pub was bought by the current owner and re-opened in 2015.
