This Pub is Permanently Closed
This large, Victorian, brick-built, corner terrace building is a privately-owned free-house and a friendly locals hostelry. The main room, open plan with cosy corners, was substantially refurbished in 2002 with extensive use of wood. A short corridor offers access to a small pool room to the rear, with the accommodation and patio beyond.
A framed history of the pub, showing owners and licensees, can be seen in the pool room.
No car park, but parking space is usually available on Curzon Street.
Historic Interest
Appears to date back to mid-1800s and was certainly a privately owned brew-pub from 1862 to 1865. Bought by Bass in 1889 and remained in their hands until sold to Hardys & Hansons in 1991. Bought by the current owners in 2002.
