Opposite the old pack horse bridge over the River Irwell. (see photos). The Restaurant serves a large range of foods with an ample choice from pizza and pasta to meat and fish dishes, with sea food being a main speciality. La Roma is situated in the picturesque village of Ringley with the River Irwell flowing through it. The river is crossed by an old pack horse bridge built in 1677 at a cost of £500 to replace the wooden one that was washed away in 1673, it was declared an ancient monument in 1950. Part of the defunct Bolton/Manchester Canal and the Kingfisher Trail in the Croal/Irwell Valley are nearby. Note that there is an Emergency Life Saving Equipment Box on the front of the pub if needed!

Historic Interest

Originally the Lord Nelson it was a regular meeting venue for the North Manchester Branch of CAMRA before the formation of the Bolton Branch a little over 40 years ago. As the Lord Nelson it was included in the Good Beer Guide from 1975 to 1982, 1992 and 1994 to 1997. In May 1981 this was a Thwaites pub called the Lord Nelson and sold their Mild and Bitter (H). It was included in the first selective Greater Manchester Beer Guide in 1976. North Manchester Branch held their Branch Meetings here on May 19th, July 21st, August 18th. On August 31st it was Mary and Percy's last night running the Pub, it would never be the same again. A further Branch meeting was held here in October but was drowned out by the Jukebox installed by the brewery (read the article!). The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Thwaites Mild and Bitter (H), darts, dominoes. HQ of CAMRA North Manchester, enough said! The Bolton Branch meeting was held here on March 5th 1980. In May 1981 it was listed as selling Thwaites Best Mild and Bitter (H). The 10th Anniversary Meeting of North Manchester Branch was held here on March 21st 1984. In August 1986 the Thwaites Mild was 68p and Bitter 70p. A social was held here on December 7th 1986. On March 15th 1989 the 15th anniversary of the formation of North Manchester Branch was held here. The pub was visited on a Pub Crawl of Stoneclough on August 23rd 1991. A Bolton Branch Meeting was held here on July 6th 1995. In July 1997 it was reported that the pub was to be extended and a kitchen built. North Manchester Branch held their 25th Anniversary celebration here in September and were disappointd that the Mild was not available any longer. The pub finally closed for the extension to be built in September 2000. It reopened before xmas and only the front wall of the original pub remained as that was the bit visible in the conservation area. In May 2006 the beers were Thwaites Bitter, Lancaster Bomber and one of their seasonal ales.
