Historic Interest

When it first opened it had two handpumps on the bar often selling Thwaites Bitter or Wainwright, later they went out of use. It closed because it was believed to be the end of the lease, a new bar Oscars opened on Nelson Square instead of renewing the lease. Downtown was on the ground floor of Sun Alliance house which was opened in 1971 on the site of the demolished Red Cross pub. The Branch held a meeting here on 26/06/2013 and was visited a town centre Mild pub crawl on 06/05/2015.
