This coastal ramble takes you from seafront Wetherspoons to tucked-away locals and microbars with railway flair. Starting by the beach and circling through the historic heart of town, you’ll enjoy harbour views, Grade II-listed pubs, and hidden gems serving everything from Otter to Upside craft.
It’s a leisurely stroll through Paignton’s pub scene that pairs perfectly with a sunny afternoon—or a rail trip with plenty of stops. Trains and buses make it effortlessly accessible, but the beer and charm might just tempt you to linger.
Start
Cross the level crossing, towards the sea front, and the pub is 200 yards on the right-hand side

Turn left from Henry’s Bar, across the road to the sea wall turning right into the harbour area.

Retrace your steps over the level crossing and the Upside Bar is diagonally across the road.
9 minutes
Leave the Upside Bar and go against the traffic in the one-way system, cross the main road into Church Street.
3 minutes
Turn right out of the pub and right before the church. Walk round the edge of the graveyard and take the first right. Go straight on and the club will be on the right when you get to the park.
10 minutes
Turn left out of the club and continue to Winner Street and then turn left. At the main road go straight across into Fisher Street, after about 400 yards the pub is on the left
