A long established traditional pub with a deep split level interior which many years ago represented the divide between the public and lounge bars. The upper (Dock Street) level has a pleasant niche on the right hand side with a fireplace as its focal point. More seating is provided in and around a large window and chairs are positioned alongside a wall with large mirrors opposite the bar counter. The lower (Llanarth Street) level has a section laid out for dining and a life-sized model of Owain Glyndwr standing by the fireplace; a side entrance to/from Llanarth Street is here. The menu is extensive with generous portions, breakfast served until 11am. The ever popular karaoke nights on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday draw good support. Newport's bus stations at Market Square and Friar's Walk are a short stroll away as is the main shopping precinct and market, bringing the pub both regular customers and passing trade. May close early if quiet at the beginning of the week. Sadly the two handpumps have been made redundant in recent times (Nov 2022).
