The pub, which was fully refurbished in 2012, consists of a large L-shaped room sub-dived into a small public bar and lounge bar in the older part of the building which has exposed ceiling joists and a log burning stove set in a brick fire-place. The comparatively newer section containing the restaurant area has unplastered brick walls, chunky beams, bare timber floors and irregularly trowelled ceiling plaster, all serving to enhance a rural ambiance. Out the back are a paved patio with garden furniture, an octagonal summer house/smoke room and a lawn furnished with picnic tables. A further major refrubishment was undertaken in the summer of 2023.
Historic Interest
This inn's name derives from the fact that it was originally a beer house enterprise set up sometime during the 1850s, next to the neighbouring windmill, by the miller, a Mr. John Barrs, who for some forty years was both a corn miller and purveyor of beer. It is thought that an 1846 trade directory makes the earliest mention of the windmill which was still in working order when it was demolished in 1912 although it had ceased trading three or four years previously.
