This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Who'd Have Thought It was situated in the New Town area to the east of the town centre, in a fairly quiet residential street. There are various theories as to how the pub acquired its unusual (but not unique) name. It traded from 1875 until 1960. As the photograph indicates, it was probably a tied Courage house for much of its existence, but during the 1950s it was owned by the well-known local boxer Dave Charnley, aka the Dartford Destroyer (!) and run by his brother, John Clifford.
After closure it was converted into a private house. It is still recognisable as a former pub as the signboard shown in the photograph remains in place.
