The building was constructed in 1936 but there had been a pub on the site for many years previously in various guises. The pub name is derived from the days when Bridgwater was a bustling port and the site is originally believed to have been owned by a merchant with the West India Trading Company, whose ships delivered goods to the quayside in the town centre.
West India House boasts a fully-equipped skittle alley/function room complete with dedicated bar. There is also a large, attractive beer garden to the rear with scenic views over countryside.
For a quiet drink in cosy surroundings there is the lounge bar complete with open log fire and for a more vibrant atmosphere then there is the saloon bar which has been extended and refurbished with modern decor.
Both bars have large flatscreen televisions for screening major live sporting events. There is also a high-end jukebox in the Saloon bar packed with the perfect mix of old classics and the latest tracks plus a games machine and dartboard.
Guest beersare often from Cheddar Ales, Twisted Oak as well as St Austell, Exmoor Ales ans Quantock Brewery.
